My name is Monica Rosenfeld and the founder of WordStorm PR. Today I’m going to talk to you about how to get media coverage for that book that you’ve just launched.
So you’ve written a book, great and you want to use it as a vehicle to get media exposure. Good idea. But from here you have two options. The first option may get you some hard and fast media coverage about your book but the second and smarter option will get you consistent coverage in the media over a period of time and build you up as the go to expert that journalists will call upon when wanting to interview a spokesperson for your industry.
Here’s what I mean by that. For option one you’ll write a press release saying you’ve written a book and you’ll let journos know that you’re available for an interview about it. For option 2 the section option you look at each chapter of your book and create a media angle on each chapter. If you have 12 chapters that means you now have a 12 month PR plan, 12 angles, and 12 press releases.
For each chapter, write a press release and pitch the topic of the chapter to the journalists and the producers. When they write an article about it or interview on TV and radio, they will invariably mention that you are the author of best-selling book such and such and it’s available from here and they’ll generally give the link.
You have written a book to become a thought leader and get some great credibility and that’s fantastic, but I would suggest you enhance this credibility even more by getting mentions of your topic and your book in the media over a long period of time.
